The Washington Wizards are betting heavily on the partnership between Trae Young and Anthony Davis, and one Wizards analyst believes Young could help Davis remind the rest of the NBA exactly how dominant he can still be.

Sergio Eduardo of The Dirty Bucket discussed the potential impact Young could have on Davis during their first full season together in Washington.

“I’m pretty sure that one of the main reasons why AD is currently happy — keyword, currently happy — is because of Trae Young. He recently stated that the best point guard he’s ever played with besides Trae has been Rajon Rondo, and that’s been a while ago. Anthony Davis right now has a golden opportunity to use Trae Young to his advantage, where he can reestablish his image around the league, reestablish his dominant play, and then we’ll see what happens from there. But this is something where I’m assuming that both Trae Young and AD are very cognizant of. They know that their chemistry will basically be a huge indicator of just how good this team will be this upcoming year.”

It is an intriguing point.

Davis has accomplished just about everything an NBA player could hope to accomplish, but the conversation surrounding him has increasingly included questions about his health and whether he can consistently perform at the level that once made him one of the league’s most feared two-way players.

Young could give him an opportunity to change that conversation.

The Wizards now have an elite pick-and-roll creator capable of consistently putting Davis in advantageous positions. Whether it is rolling to the basket, catching lobs or popping into space, Davis shouldn’t have to manufacture everything himself offensively.

The relationship could benefit Young just as much.

Davis gives him an accomplished screen-and-roll partner while also providing the type of defensive presence that can help cover for Young on the other end. That makes their partnership potentially crucial to Washington’s success.

The Wizards have plenty of fascinating young talent, but how quickly that group can develop isn’t entirely in their control.

Young and Davis are different.

They are the established stars Washington is counting on right now, and if their chemistry is as effective on the court as it appears capable of being on paper, Davis may have the perfect opportunity to remind the NBA just how dominant he can still be.
